- Get moving boxes from a home improvement or office supply store. Moving boxes have uniform dimensions making them ideal for saving space in a truck.
- Have a garage sale. It will save you money on the move and you'll even make a few bucks.
- Contact your insurance companies, magazines, credit cards etc. to inform them of your change of address.
One to Two Weeks Prior
- When you are packing label all the boxes as you pack. Write the destination room on the top and sides of each box to ensure it gets to the right place in your new home.
- Schedule disconnects for the utilities. You can set all these things to happen the day after your move.
- Schedule connections for your new home.
- Cancel subscriptions such as newspapers, TV and lawn maintenance
- Mail in your change of address forms.
The day before the move
- Clean the refrigerator, then defrost and dry.
- Withdrawl enough cash for a couple days.
- Say "bon voyage" to your old neighborhood!
